Employees’ State Insurance Corporation is a statutory body constituted under an Act of Parliament (ESI Act, 1948) and works under the administrative control of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Employees’ State Insurance Corporation proposes to recruit the post of Dean in ESI Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science & Research, Basaidarapur, New Delhi by direct recruitment on regular basis. The detail of the vacancy is as under:

Post: Dean

Total number of posts: 01

Scale of Pay : PB-4 with G.P. of Rs.10,000/- plus Non Practicing Allowance.

Age Limit : Not exceeding 55 Years (relaxable up to 5 Years for employees of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation and the Govt. Servants)

The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in India i.e.20-05-2011 and not the closing date prescribed for those in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of Jammu and Kashmir State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep


(i) A recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Holders of educational qualification included in Part-II of the Third Schedule should also fulfil the conditions stipulated in Section 13 (3) of the Act).

(ii) A postgraduate qualification e.g. MD/MS or a recognised qualification equivalent thereto in the respective subject/ allied discipline.

Note: The respective subject / allied discipline should be as in the Table-I of schedule 1 of the MCI-“Minimum Qualifications for teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998”).

(i) Fourteen years of teaching and / or research experience in recognised institution, in the concerned speciality / subject after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D. / M.S. or qualification equivalent thereto.

(ii) Minimum of ten years teaching experience as Professor/Associate Professor/Reader in a Medical College out of which at least five years should be as Professor in a Department.

Selection Procedure:
(i) All eligible candidates should apply in the application format appended below on or before the last date for receipt of applications. Applications received after the last date will not be considered.

(ii) Selection will be made on the basis of interview which will be conducted by the Selection Board at New Delhi. However ESIC reserves the right to change the centre, if need be. The results of the interview will be published on the website of the Corporation and no inquiry or correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

The promulgation of Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948(ESI Act), by the Parliament was the first major legislation on social Security for workers in independent India. It was a time when the industry was still in a nascent stage and the country was heavily dependent on an assortment of imported goods from the developed or fast developing countries. The deployment of manpower in manufacturing processes was limited to a few select industries such as jute, textile, chemicals etc. The legislation on creation and development of a fool proof multi-dimensional Social Security system, when the country’s economy was in a very fledgling state was obviously a remarkable gesture towards the socio economic amelioration of a workface though limited in number and geographic distribution. India, notwithstanding, thus, took the lead in providing organized social protection to the working class through statutory provisions.

The ESI Act 1948, encompasses certain health related eventualities that the workers are generally exposed to; such as sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent disablement, Occupational disease or death due to employment injury, resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity-total or partial. Social security provision made in the Act to counterbalance or negate the resulting physical or financial distress in such contingencies, are thus, aimed at upholding human dignity in times of crises through protection from deprivation, destitution and social degradation while enabling the society the retention and continuity of a socially useful and productive manpower.
